Sesame Cardamom Tea Cookies

Sesame Cardamom Tea Cookies are one of my favorite treats to bake when I want something special but not too fussy. These little gems have such a lovely warmth to them, and they pair beautifully with a cup of tea on any afternoon.

What makes these cookies truly shine is the wonderful cardamom, which gives them such a sophisticated, almost exotic flavor that your guests will be asking about. The butter and sugar create a tender, buttery base, while the sesame adds a delightful nuttiness that keeps people coming back for more.

I love setting out a plate of these cookies when my grandchildren visit—there’s something so special about sharing homemade treats that say “I made this with love for you.” They’re perfect for tea time, and they always remind me of the simple joys of baking together as a family.

  • 1 teaspoon Cardamom
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 0.5 cup Butter
  • 0.25 cup Sugar
  • 0.25 cup Brown Sugar
  • 0.5 cup Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tablespoon Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger

Instructions

  • Combine flour, cardamom, salt, and baking powder.
  • Set aside.
  • Mix the sugars and butter ( or margarine) over medium speed until fluffy.
  • Mix in the tahini (make sure to mix well), then the vanilla, sesame seeds, and ginger (if using).
  • Over low speed, add flour mixture.
  • Dough should be a bit crumbly (much like shortbread dough).
  • Cover dough with plastic wrap and chill for about an hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Shape dough into small balls (about 1 inch or 15 grams).
  • Arrange onto a baking sheet (I use baking mats, but parchment also works).
  • Using a glass, press the cookies down into discs.
  • You may need to dip the glass in water to prevent the cookies from sticking to the glass.
  • Bake about 8 minutes until the edges are slightly browned.
  • Cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
