Eggnog Sugar Cookies are my favorite festive treat to bake when the holidays roll around! There’s something so special about the way eggnog brings a warm, spiced flavor to these tender little cookies that just melts in your mouth.
What makes these cookies truly magical is the combination of rich eggnog and butter beaten until smooth and creamy, creating a delicate crumb that’s softer than regular sugar cookies. The eggnog gives them that special holiday taste that brings everyone back for seconds, and they’re not fussy to make at all.
I love sharing these cookies with neighbors and family during the Christmas season—they’re always the first to disappear from my cookie platters! My grandchildren have grown up asking for these every December, and now they’re starting to help me bake them, making new memories in my kitchen.

Eggnog Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup Butter
- 1 cup Sugar
- 0.5 cup Eggnog
- 3.5 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
Instructions
- Beat the butter with the sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Add the eggnog, flour, baking powder and salt, blending until the dough is smooth.
- Divide the dough in half.
- Place each half between 2 sheets of wax paper and roll out to 1/4 thick.
- Refrigerate for 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Pull 1 dough sheet from the refrigerator and peel off the top sheet of wax paper.
- Cut into shapes using your favorite cookie cutters and space 1 apart on greased cookie sheets.
- Bake for 8-12 minutes at 375 degrees F, or until the edges begin to brown.
- Repeat with the rest of the dough.
- When you arent actively cutting out cookies, keep the dough refrigerated; if it gets too warm, it will spread too much during baking.
- When you cant get any more cookies out of your dough, mash the scraps together and roll the dough out once more.
- Cut out all the additional cookies you can, then do what my grandpa always did: piece together the scraps into random shapes and place them on the cookie sheets.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing.
