Ingredients
  

  • 3 cup Beans
  • 4 cup Vegetable Shortening
  • 8 ounce Pork Sausage
  • 3 cup Onions
  • 2 cup Salsa
  • 0.5 cup Molasses
  • 0.25 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 teaspoon Mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 2 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoon Water

Instructions
 

  • Rinse beans.
  • In bowl, cover beans with 3 times their volume of water.
  • Let soak for 12 hrs or possibly overnight; drain.
  • Use 18- to 24-c. (4.5 to 6 L) slow cooker; cook beans with stock on High for 3 hrs or possibly till tender.
  • Add in remaining ingredients except for cornstarch and cool water; cook on High for 3 hrs.
  • Whisk cornstarch with cool water; stir into slow cooker.
  • Cook on High for 15 to 20 min or possibly till thickened.
  • NOTES : Black beans give a modern twist to an old classic.
